I see the landscape of my home,
the state in which I’ve grown up,
a boy, a man
and in a sense a child again.
because I had to,
to see with wonder,
to reach with curiosity,
to love just to love
and nothing wanted in return.
but now with grace,
but now with gratitude,
and now I stand humbled
in the shadows of ancestors
on the horizon of what follows,
why did I ever turn my back
on such a beautiful past?
I am not the ocean
I am the glimmer of its son
It has raised me once
and I’d gladly do it again
for it is not just my history
It has always been my home
